Ella Suena

A couple of months after EEE performed Para Ti as part of Second Sight/First Viewing at the Illusion we rented Intermedia Arts and performed Ella Suena. Ella Suena brought back Fragile Dreams from the MN Fringe Festival, Para Ti and a new piece called The Words We Know…The Words We Know was the first time I was honored to collaborate with a local composer/musician; Hattie.

Second Sight/First Viewing; 2003

Since I was 15 I completely idolized and adored Danny Buraczeski and JAZZDANCE. I love attending all different styles and genres of dance, but when I saw JAZZDANCE for the first time at O’shaugnessy I fell completely in love with jazz and all the possibilities within this incredible style of dance.

In the early winter of 2002 we were honored to have Danny Buraczeski attend one of our rehearsals to give us feedback on a new piece I was creating. At that rehearsal he invited us to be a part of Second Sight/First Viewing at the Illusion Theatre. We tried to coolly and calmly accept and as he left our rehearsal immediately erupted in cheers. One of my most cherished memories.

EEE's "Fragile Dreams" MN Fringe Festival 2002

This season marks Eclectic Edge Ensemble’s 10th season. I can not believe it! As we are busy rehearsing and working on our 10th Anniversary Concert I wanted to take time to look over EEE’s 10 year history. We have been so blessed to work with such incredible dancers, choreographers, directors, composers, musicians, designers and artists. It has been a blast watching old videos to see where EEE started to where we are now. Filled with gratitude for every single step we have taken.

In preparation for our Anniversary Concert we are making compilations of EEE’s past productions. Tune in every few days to catch a new video and post.

Since I was a young girl producing shows for my stuffed animals I knew that some day I wanted to create and direct a dance company. In 2002, after I graduated from the U of MN, I applied for the MN Fringe Festival and got in! On the application they asked for a company’s name, and there in my parents’ living room Eclectic Edge Ensemble was born. Our first production Fragile Dreams was inspired by two Salvador Dali paintings.
