Summer Time!

Ahhh, Summer is here!  Feels like an eternity since we've been able to enjoy the outdoors, but as we Minnesotans know we have to enjoy it while it lasts!  There are so many activities to enjoy, here's a list of some things you should be sure to check out this summer!

1.The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, adjacent to the Walker Art Center near downtown Minneapolis, is bringing back its popular artist-designed mini golf course, this time with a full 18 holes. Ten new designs will join eight returning holes; each one is unique and created by a Minnesota-based artist, including architects, engineers and furniture designers. The course will be open May 22 through September.

2. More than 20 contemporary sculptures now call the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska home, where they are artfully integrated into the natural setting. To see them, follow the walkways leading up to the grove of Kentucky coffee trees that encircle the arboretum’s highest viewpoint. The sculptures were donated by a local couple, who have been collecting artwork from around the world since the 1960s.

3. In July 2014, Target Field will host the MLB All-Star Game. Five days of events lead up to the game, including a home run derby, celebrity softball game and FanFest at the Minneapolis Convention Center, which features exhibits, batting cages, memorabilia and free autograph sessions.

4. 2014 marks the 11th year of Music in Mears and we are back with more then just great music!  Lowertown Entertainment District will be serving Summit beer and great food from their member restaurants along with a variety of food trucks each week!  http://musicinmears.com/schedule.html

5. Skyline Music Festival at Target Field features Melissa Etheridge, O.A.R., The Rembrandts, Gear Daddies and The Honeydogs on Aug. 9.

6. Free music and movies in the park happens all summer long!  Check out the link to the calendar and plan your night out and see one of these great classic films!  http://www.mplsmusicandmovies.com

With so many awesome events in the Minnesota, summer time is sure to fly by, so sit back, relax, and try one of these or the many other events that are happening!  And don't forget to mark you calendars for EEE's summer Fundriaser happening Thursday July 24th, from 6-9 at Summit Brewery!

It's Opening NIGHT!!!!!

It's opening night of DREAMSCAPE at the Southern Theatre in Minneapolis.

Are you aware of the follownig theater superstitions....

Superstition: It is bad luck to wear the color blue onstage, unless it was countered with something silver.

Superstition: Having three lit candles onstage is bad luck.

Superstition: Peacock Feathers should never be brought on stage, either as a costume element, prop or part of a set as chaos will ensue.

Superstition: It’s considered good luck traditionally to give the director and/or the leading lady, after closing night, a bouquet of flowers stolen from a graveyard (never give flowers before a performance – They are yet to earn them so it’s bad luck!)

Superstition: It is bad luck to have mirrors on stage.

Superstitions: Ghosts haunt theaters and should be given one night a week alone on the stage.

Superstition: There should always be a light burning in an empty theater to ward off ghosts.

Superstition: It is considered bad luck to whistle on or off stage, as someone (not always the whistler) will be fired.

Superstition: To wish someone ‘Good luck’ before a show is bad luck.

Superstition: Saying the word ‘Macbeth’ in a theater will result in extreme bad luck.

EEE enters the Southern Theater!

Eclectic Edge Ensemble is excited to begin our show week entering the Southern Theater.  This new space is sure to add to the landscape of this season's show "DreamScape."  Upon entering the theater, you will be brought into a world of dreams with interactive displays and fun facts asking the question that inspired this show, "what is something you've always dreamed of doing?"  EEE is thrilled to share "DreamScape" with its audience - it will make you laugh, make you cry, and hopefully inspire you to follow your dreams, big or small!

Please join Eclectic Edge Ensemble for a reception at The Republic after Thursday's opening performance!  Come mingle and share your thoughts with the company and enjoy some yummy treats!

Jazz Dance

What is "Jazz Dance" anyway?

According to the Oxford Dictionary of Dance...

Jazz dance is a classification shared by a broad range of dance styles. Before the 1950s, jazz dance referred to dance styles that originated from African American vernacular dance. In the 1950s, a new genre of jazz dance — modern jazz dance — emerged, with roots in Caribbean traditional dance. Every individual style of jazz dance has roots traceable to one of these two distinct origins. Jazz was a big hit in the early 50's and it is still a well loved style of dance all over the world.

See "Jazz Dance" in action at our upcoming show DreamScape, Southern Theater, Feb. 13-16th!

Reeling Over Love 2012; February 2012

Reeling Over Love 2012
The Ritz Theatre 2012
February 16th-19th, 2012

Ever since we first produced this show in 2009, I have wanted to bring it back and reexamine the scenes to bring more real-life sections into it. Movie-watching has become one of America's favorite pass-times. I know I eagerly anticipate my trips to the theater, whether it be to enjoy the critically-acclaimed film of the month or... the so often dreaded but ever-so-lovable "chick flick." My inspiration to create Reeling Over Love began when I decided to take a step back and re-watch some of the classic Hollywood stories of love and romance that many of us idolize and it made me question; what are we feeding our minds as the “norm” to falling in love? Will the love of our life really climb the fire escape with flowers in hand?  Or is real romance found in something as commonplace as washing the dishes after dinner? What are we looking for in love?

The premier of Reeling Over Love played with two worlds. One world told a classic movie storyline: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy and girl discover by a magical twist of fate that they were meant to be together forever. The other world was split into vignettes of how love looks in real life. When restructuring the piece, I wanted to add duets that portray what love can feel like behind closed doors... what it feels like to be in love, confused, comfortable, or lost and alone.  The music that brought these duets to life is the creative work of local composer Brian Erickson. After first working with Brian on Snowbound! a journey from Autumn to Spring, I knew right away I wanted to work with him again on this show. It was such a gift to collaborate with him on these new sections, and I was thrilled to have him playing the pieces live.
